This week's weekly rant is not about Pro wrestling or politics or bitching about the radio biz. No this week's rant is not really a rant but a memorial of sorts, I lost my grandmother to a disease called edema which is basically where your body fills up with water and you can not get rid of it fast enough and you basically drown on the inside of your body. As everyone's knows from listening to the program or knowing me personally. My grandmother went by the moniker of "Ol Doris" on the show. This woman was a battleaxe but with all due respect. She could tussle with the best of them, verbally.
Now this woman's name was Doris Bahre and she was born in to a classy folk of people named the wagoners. Now Doris would grow up and ran a beauty shop in her hometown of Lyons Kansas. Doris would eventually marry and equally strong man by the name of Rogene Bahre. Mr. Bahre managed a machine shop in McPherson and they had two wonderful kids by the name's of Lydia and Rodger. Doris was a tough as nails woman who had saw several things from the depression all the way to the invention of E-mail. Doris was a great mother and a great grandmother who loved children and she had a very interesting life.
I do not have enough space this week to tell you about all the fun and exciting stuff this woman did with her life and all the people she encountered over her life on the earth. However I will share with ya some stories and past hits from my knowing my grandma. I always said I could have paid my way threw school as a stand up comedian with some of the stories that she had in her past. She had a very bad rep for driving she would go after people on the highway if she was cut off, she would flip people off and cuss them up one side and down the other. My grandma could be sweet and innocent to one minute later going off and getting after someone.
One time for my uncle's birthday she took all of us out for dinner in Hutchinson Kansas at Amarillo grill. Well we got bad service all night from my cousin having ice cream in a warm dish to food not being cooked or brought late to the table. Well towards the end of the meal she reams this waiter out and launches into a tirade. She was not paying for this crap and she was out of there. Well dude wanted a tip, she was not tipping him and she was outty 5,000. Dude runs threw the place hollering for Gary or whomever was the manager. Well she did not tip the ****er and we bolted out of there.
Why I loved my grandma was because she would do anything for anyone. She would help anyway she could from money to other ways. She had her dignity and she wanted her and got her respect from life and people in general. I may have had my issues with her and we may have fought and feuded but a lot of that was an act and a lot of it was just family being family. I loved my grandma and I will miss her dearly and hope that she has finally been able to get some rest and talk to her dear departed husband Rogene. I remember when I was dating "the chosen one" and she came home and broke my world into a billion pieces and I had to move from Hutchinson to McPherson. I lived with my mother and my grandma in 2004 and they helped me get threw the year of hell. I managed to get my driving privileges back and get me a car{she let me use her car for the driving test}I was able to get back into the gym and make a huge comeback in combat sports and make a run at being the headliner of Box-A-Buddy and set up for a toughman contest run. I was able to learn to find love again and eventually got a social life and meet my lovely new wife. I was able to do all this and now she can go on and rest now.
I just have one more thing to say and that is "I will miss you grandma"
