Weekly Rant: Wrestle mania BLOWS!!!!
I have been a fan of WWE and TNA and other pro wrestling groups for years. However this year Vince wants people to cough up 80 bucks for High Def version and poss. 60 bucks for a 4 hr show which is going to be the biggest event of the year. You have past wrestlemaina events that have had such epic matches such as Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan, The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Great stuff by all of the old events, however the last few years have been crap.You had Batista vs. Undertaker last year, then year before that Cena vs HHH. Now this year has got to be the crap of the crap.
First off the big match that has brought fight fans in and have turned off Wrestling fans. Floyd Mayweather vs Big Show. Now Show went off awhile back and went to train for a pro boxing career and could not get any takers from people thinking it was a comedy act to this cardio was a question. Then you have “Pretty Boy Floyd” coming from his last marquee match to go into Pro wrestling. Now this is basically a gimmick match and is one of the ones VKM has every year. One year Vince had Big Show take on Akebonno in a Sumo match. Last year it was Trump and Vince, years back we had Mr T vs. Roddy Piper in a boxing match. What can be brought from this match, either this is Vince's way of getting Big Show into Boxing, hell Vince has tried and failed to fight against Joe Weider in Bodybuilding and he tried to take on the NFL. So hell let's try to get after Don King and the rest. Floyd Mayweather can use this as a way to keep his name out there till he gets a big pay day with either Oscar or someone like that. Or let him try this and then get into MMA which has been rumored.
Another match on this card is Ric Flair's retirement match vs. Shawn Michaels. Now most wrestling fans know this is going to be a great match cause HBK can make Flair look like a million dollars. Shawn also can be a great thing instead of having some mid card or nobody beating Flair. The best thing would have been for Sting to become the man to end Flairs career due to them skyrocketing WCW back into the war with WWF in the 90's to the final nitro to now being Flair's biggest match on the grandest stage of them all. However Flair has a big office job going with WWE after all of this and HBK can now get a rub and maybe a good feud after WM with someone.
You have a smackdown vs. Raw brand match with Umaga and Batista. Now both men are not being pushed by Vince and both men have some issues and heat backstage, so this may be a punishment to both of them. However there are others such as Finley and JBL, so basically this is the a battle of Vince's boys. You have other matches such as Money in the bank and a womans match. I just hate the fact this is the biggest card of the year and a lot of the title belts are not on the line. Look at the Beth Phoenix, now this woman is the womans champion and she is a former Power lifter Search for her on You tube and you will find that she is impressive and Vince is not pushing her, he is putting her in a match with 3 other dames who can not wrestle are eye candy at best.
My view is simply Wrestle mania should be HUGE...not just a few matches that are good but a lot of them are crap. All the belts should be on the line and Money in the bank should be a side project and not a way to make a mid card guy a main event wrestler. The main event should not look like a crappy TV main event You have Cena/HHH/Orton head up in the main event. Most wrestling fans know this is going 1 way and 1 way only. The guy who is married to the bosses daughter will win the title. Cena is off to shoot a movie and Orton has had the title way too long, so guess what HHH is going to win the title.
Finally until people wake up and as my close personal long time friend Frank Cotolo says”Demand more!”. People will continue to see crap such as this years WM card, for instance this happened with the UFC's show, The Ultimate Fighter. Last year and the year before the ratings were slowly going into the ****ter, so the UFC has changed some of the outlay of the show this next season. So guess what, people will come back. However WWE is much like Baseball in the fact that after the strike people said they would not be back. So the season opener started and the seats were bare except for certain spots the die hards were there. So you can't win for losing on all this.
