Response to Posture |
| Vincent,
The lotus posture (sitting cross-legged with feet on top of the upper legs) is fine for NSR as long as it is completely comfortable, as sitting in a comfortable chair is for most of us. However, in your question you used the phrase "the physical effort of sitting straight" which would seem to indicate that you find the lotus position to involve effort. In such a case, the lotus position would not be best, since it would tend to keep the attention at the surface (daily activity) level. In NSR we would like the mind and body to be as free and comfortable as possible.
Unlike other practices, in NSR there is no need for any special postures, beliefs, diet, or anything else other than the NSR technique itself. Transcending, alternated with activity, is what brings the results of greater intelligence, creativity, love, and joy.
