Response to QUESTION ABOUT THE SYLLABLE

Astelor,

Om is indeed an effective syllable, and is recommended in other systems of meditation. However, this syllable is more appropriate for a reclusive way of life rather than one of activity and responsibility. Using Om over a long period of time may be expected to foster lower energy and even dullness, qualities that are not helpful for an active life in modern society.

In general, teachers of effective meditation (NSR included) do not speak much of mantras and other such mechanics. We trust the Vedic tradition and use the sounds that have been recommended without making them intellectual and thereby ineffective by analysing them.

Your question appears to indicate that you have some confusion over the basics of NSR. If you own the NSR learning materials (manual and audio file or CD), I recommend that you work your way through them again. This will clear up your confusion. If you do not own the NSR materials, I recommend that you buy them (download at www.natural-stress-relief.com or hardcopy at www.NaturalStressReliefUSA.org). The NSR materials are standard; there is only one version used both by il Istituto Scientia and by NSR/USA.

If you have further questions, please mail them to us to avoid confusing people who read this forum.

Thanks,
