visual images

I often have the experience of viewing a rapidly changing collage of images: some from my recent experiences, some from memories. I usually just watch, and remain detached from the "show". Once they have been viewed, the images rarely return. It is usually a very fast-paced event, moving much more quickly than passing thoughts, kind of like one of those childhood "flip books", but with unrelated images. Just wondering if this is common.
