Response to Rest Times

Elise,

This is a different topic: sleep debit (or sleep deficit). This has been discussed elsewhere in this forum (try the Search form above).

Sleep debt is a type of stress that represents the accumulative effect of insufficient sleep over a period of time, usually many years.

Its main symptom is falling asleep in meditation. Frequently we will also find that our head falls forward, even painfully so, during these periods of sleep, and that our meditation time extends to an hour or more.

This is a good experience, because we are finally getting rid of that sleep deficit. We will be more alert during daily activity as a result. As with any other kind of stress release, we merely have to be patient while it is happening. Once it's gone, it's gone.
