| Hello
Firstly I would like to share that NSR is a beautiful thing, I started NSR in April 2007 so i'm not even a year old with it and I feel really great because of starting it. I am hopeful that as the years pass it will give me even greater satisfaction and insight into living my life.
I have a question about yawning, recently I have seemed to have developed a routine of yawning during meditation that is not frequent during the session but usually occurs when the session either begins or ends, I think it may be a kind of 'nervous excitement' yawn due to the anticipation of diving within, maybe it's a stress release in itself, maybe you could explain how and why this yawn routine might be present?
best wishes

Kerry,
I'm glad you are enjoying your practice of NSR.
About your yawning, you are actually asking a fairly deep question.
Stress release is a complex process, an interplay of knowledge and ignorance, of rest caused by pure consciousness and activity caused by the repair of damage in the nervous system.
Because the process is so complex and delicately balanced, many different things can happen. Some NSR practitioners may fall asleep. Others may yawn and feel a subtle excitement. Still others may experience boredom or a feeling that nothing is happening. Others may experience profound bliss. The possibilities are many, and specific prediction or explanation is difficult at best.
Fortunately, it is not necessary to understand every aspect of stress release in detail, since we know that everything that happens while stresses are dissolving is for good. We are happy that the dirt is being cleared away and don't need to examine the dirt in detail as it is going.
The yawning may continue in every meditation, or may suddenly stop happening and something completely different may start happening. Whatever happens, we always take it as it comes, neither anticipating nor resisting change. Our attitude is always one of simple innocence.

Thank you David for your, once again, clear elucidation of the process. This is the information I need to remember. |
