Good question. Yes, I think you are missing something.
While it is true that transcending is simple, effortless, and quickly learned, there are various experiences that can happen that need to be understood. Without full, systematic instruction, we are liable to practice on our own for a few days, then encounter an experience that seems to be a problem, then quit entirely. The value of complete instruction over a three-day period is the stronger start it gives us and having the knowledge that helps us deal with whatever may come up during our meditation sessions.
Complete instruction over a three-day period (and support thereafter in the form of consultations like this, Residence Courses, etc.) allows us to continue to enjoy the effectiveness and refreshment of NSR throughout our entire life.
