Hello David,
Hope all is well. I wanted to touch base with you on where I am in my NSR practice.
I discovered NSR in Summer 2006. I practiced twice a day for about one month. At that point, I was experiencing strong physiological responses in and outside of meditation. Via email, you had suggested to do spinal breathing before the syllable, and then do the syllable for a reduced time frame of 10 minutes. I discovered that I really did not like spinal breathing, and chose to do simple mindful breathing meditation instead. Thereafter, due to scheduling changes, my practice became sporadic.
Recently, I began my practice again. Often, I am not able to do it twice a day, but I usu. manage at least once a day.
At this point, I have returned to a similar place - I am feeling strong physiological effects, such as
- a sense of warmth in certain parts of my body
- electrical charges through out my body and face, and even in my head!
- a sense of slow burning
Once again, these feelings come both inside and outside of meditation, and I feel some variation of response constantly. It's quite something to sit in a corporate meeting while feeling electrical charges in your face!!
I know that obviously my body is responding to the technique, and I want to progress further with it. I seem to remain in this position of strong physical responses, but psychically, no experience of transcendence or bliss. I have been experiencing a lot of emotional upheaval over years, and I am presently working to dissolve negative cognitive patterns and strong negative emotions using other methods as well, i.e. affirmations, contemplation, listening to binaural beat CDs, etc.
I know NSR can help me in this transformational process, but I am not clear how to move past this level of progress. Any ideas? and sorry for the long message, but I felt like I needed to be clear.
Also, at times, I feel like my brain is freezing. Like right now, I am trying to concentrate on what I am doing online, but my brain feels "frozen" while charges are running across the top of my head. These effects have become quite strong, almost all the time!

Stress release during activity

Sumiya,
The most common cause of discomfort during daily life is incorrect practice. This can range from coming out of meditation sessions too quickly to putting individual effort into the actual practice.
Most such problems are easily fixed through email or phone/Skype consultations.
Very rarely, such discomfort can result from the partial release of a very deep-rooted stress. The solution is either to release the entire stress in a Residence Course or to reduce meditation time to reduce the rate of stress release, but it sounds like you have already reduced your meditation time to 10 minutes with no effect, so this is probably not the problem.
There is not much I can say about your specific situation based on the information you have presented in this public forum.
David, thanks very much for the quick response. Over the next few days, I will experiment with coming out of meditation slower. I don't feel as if I am exerting individual effort, however I will keep this in mind as I am going into the mantra.
If this to no avail, I would love to have some email consultation if possible.
The "residence course" that you mention - is that available in the NYC area?
