stress

Hi David,

I've been experiencing tensing of the right shoulder whenever I start my meditation. I have to make a conscious effort while meditating to relax my shoulder. It does get better as I get deeper into meditating. My massage therapist laid her hands on my shoulder and told me that I take on a lot of responsibility, which is true, I didn't tell her how stressful my life is. She felt it. Any suggestions, is the tensing of the muscles stress release? It doesn't feel like it.

Stress in the shoulder

June 25 2009, 2:19 AM

Maripil,

Yes, this is stress demonstrating its presence. Instead of trying to relax the shoulder, just observe it. It will probably tense even more, and may begin to hurt. Stay with it. This is the way to allow the stress to leave quickly, so it doesn't have to be a constant feature of meditation and so you can be more relaxed in daily life.

It would be helpful to others if you continue to keep us informed of how it is going over the next few days until this stress has completely dissolved.

shoulder tenseness

I do think it's working, the shoulder does tense up more, and hurts, but since I am not worrying about relaxing the shoulder my sessions are once again on track. I'll let you know how the week goes. Thank you David.

One never knows when the stress will be gone...

You're quite welcome. Be sure to continue to do this procedure until the stress is gone. When you have to make a choice, it is more valuable to allow stress to be released than to think the syllable.

Please let us know when there is a significant change in your experience.
