I guess I'll go to The Avenue and tell them they should remove the announcement of Mister Woolfson's new release, which they seemed more than happy to give space to.
Frankly, in my mind, the ol' Project Pair should ALWAYS be considered as friends and I think a wish to see them work together again (even for a single track!) should be enough to share both artists' information.
Eric is doing his thing & Aaan is doing his, although having listen to the small downloads on this site, I can only say that I was not all that impressed...it's all been done before. APP are still touring, in fact I got my tickets yesterday for one of the three gigs in England...I'm going to London at the end of January to the Apollo. We live for a very short time on this planet and the older you get, the more you realise how short that time is. It still seems like last year when I was on the road with megga-major rock bands and having the time of my life...if was in fact 25+ years ago. It's such a shame that these "prima donnas" of rock have such a childish attitude and can't talk to each other, thus providing, the people that made them "famous", with the quality music we deserve. Just keep on being childish, boys.
It is a top 5 of Eric Woolfson's albums (including Alan Parsons Project albums but not Alan Parsons albums). As you know Woolfson and Parsons do not work together anymore. They follow separate paths. Consequently I think that it is less polite to talk about the new Alan Parsons album on this forum that is strictly about Eric Woolfson and has nothing to do with the new Alan Parsons album. But don't get me wrong, I am a huge, huge fan of Alan Parsons. Maybe my reasoning is too formal but I was thinking that I would be a pity when the attention that Eric Woolfson deserves with his new album would get lost in a debate about what Alan Parsons is doing. I fully respect of course other opinions.
Aaaagh... ****, forget this silly problem ! If people here want to talk about Alan or for example Ian Bairnson... Andrew Powell... or Andrew Lloyd Webber ! ... let they do it.
Well, I am a big fan of both APP and Andrew Lloyd Webber, and now that you talk about him, this new Poe's album sounds very much as Webber's musical. I prefered the old APP's sound, much fresher than this... Still the quality is light-years ahead of any rock or pop music production today...
Responding to the previous thread, I can definitely say that I'm NOT a fan of Lloyd Webber, though I do admire Tim Rice as a lyricist.
I don't really see the similarities, as I regard Eric Woolfson as one of the finest songwriters of all time, in company with Stephen Sondheim, the Gershwins, Lennon & McCartney, Paul Simon, and precious few others. I don't see Lloyd Webber in that league at all, either musically or lyrically (he's not applicable to the latter category anyway).
This isn't to say L-W's work doesn't have merit, but I definitely see Woolfson's intuitive lyrics and dexterous melodic sense vastly more compelling, and quite different in nature.
