Steve Balsamo, accompanied by his guitarist Rob Thompson, has been invited to perform in St Michael's Cave, Gibraltar,( see www.gibraltar.gi then click on tourism, then "things to see" for info on the spectacular venue) as special guest at Suzanne Vega's concert there on Tuesday 15th June. The concert, which sold out over a week ago,is Steve's second appearance on the Rock-the first being last September 10th when his new band, The Storys, performed in front of over 6000 people at the Rock's main annual rock concert which was broadcast live on TV. His band were the first non-Gibraltarian band to appear at this event.

Steve is the first Welsh singer to appear in the Cave since Dorothy Squires way back in 1970! It should be a great night!

Found article from last time!

Sounds like a wonderful venue! I hope to visit sometime. It is a pity I did not hear about this one until it was already sold out but perhaps next time! :) There is nothing quite like witnessing a concert or performance live.

But I am looking forward to hearing Steve perform in some other upcoming concerts this summer, so I am grateful to be going to some of these.
(http://www.stevebalsamo.com for details and links to buy tickets)

I also thought it might be nice to post the link to
http://www.gibraltarlivemusic.com/readarticle.php?id=000080
as there is a lovely article and picture there! I think it may have been mentioned before, but it is worth mentioning again. I wonder if there will be a review or article and maybe photos from the new performance that might be posted on the Gibraltar Live Music site? I suppose we can keep our fingers crossed!

And more fingers crossed for news about a POE performance soon too?

Regards,
The Magician's BA

St Michael's Cave

I totally understand people being disappointed at being unable to buy tickets for this concert-the truth is I became involved in its organisation only two weeks before it took place. Steve was added at the last moment at my request. It is a small venue-some 300 people only-but is breathtakingly beautiful and amazingly atmospheric.

Steve and Rob played a lovely acoustic set of mainly original songs from the upcomong Storys album. They also performed a haunting version of Shawn Colvin's I Don't Know Why as Shawn has appeared on both Steve and Suzanne Vega's albums. The entire concert was filmed by the Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation and we hope to put some of Steve and Rob's performance on his site soon.

Steve described St Michael's Cave as " the most amazing venue I have ever performed in." He was, to put it mildly, knocked out with it and wants to do more there soon-maybe The Storys will do an unplugged set there. If so we'll try and let you all know earlier. Promise!

It would also be an amazing place to perform and film Poe!

Yes, these things do happen with concerts - there are usually reasons why though, so it is important to keep that in mind and not get too upset by it. Although it does sound like quite an exciting venue and I look forward to hearing more about it and some of the upcoming artists and performances there soon! :D

Plus, it prompted me to check out some of Suzanne Vega's other upcoming tour dates, and I am looking forward to seeing her soon! :)

Many thanks for your message - and I'm very pleased that it was a success and wonderful experience for all concerned! :D

Kind Regards
The Magician's BA
