Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if a native German speaker can help me with something? On the Austrian version of Freudiana, on the song equivalent to "There But For the Grace of God," it is said:
"Der Sinn des Seins - kein Mensch vermag ihn zu verstehen"
Which I translate as meaning:
"No man is able to comprehend the meaning of existence"
The next line, however, has me baffled:
"Allein der Spur des Sinns zu folgen, das vermag der Mensch."
Only what? I've tried the help of dictionaries, but I still can't get any logical translation of "der Spur des Sinns." Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I think your translation is probably perfect, I guess it must just be the way it was wrote to fit in with the music that makes it sound unusual. As an afterthought, it's a shame the Austrian cast version of Freudiana is so rare, because it's very good, and very different from the English version. Oh, well! The best albums are usually the rarest, I suppose!
