Hopefully someone can help me. I love APP and especially Eric's voice. I was watching an episode of Northern Exposure - Season 4 (Heros: originally aired 10/19/92) At the end one of the characters uses a trebuchet to fling his best friends casket into the lake. The song that partially plays is beautiful and sounds like APP and or Eric. I have searched NX sites, lyrics sites and APP to no avail. The ep music guide lists the song as "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harem but it definately is not. It was replace by this beautiful song for the DVD. He are the lyrics I was able to get:
"I had a life, like few others had
Days led to months, months led to years
It didn't seem so bad.
I counted days, tried to find ways to heal the past
Tried to become someone I'm not
It couldn't last
And time stood still when you came along
Created a moment that brought on this song
And all my past kept quiet until
Time stood still
Now I know . . . . . "
Then it cut off to the credits. I'd love to find out more info and if it is available. I'm holding up my netflix cue to play this one bit over and over. I might have to buy the DVD's!!!
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
According to the sources I've found, it should be a song from a strage TV show called "Tom Goes To The Major".
Here is the IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425720/
And, most important, HERE is a page with clips of the TV show songs. The one you were searching for is "CALENDAR"

Sadly, it's not a song created for seriousness, but at least you can re-listen to it now that you know what is it.
Wow! All the way from Italy! Thank you so much for your help. I was really impressed that it didn't take someone long to respond to my stab in the dark. At least now I know where the song comes from and the title. My husband thanks you. I've been a bit . . . we'll say, "consumed" with this search.
Even if the song was created for goofy reasons it is still really beautiful. I thank you again for identifying it. It was very well suited to the scene in the episode of Northern Exposure it was used in. Anyhow, I just e-mailed Davin Wood who writes music for "Tom Goes to the Mayor" and I've put those DVD's on my Netflix cue to check them out.
Thank you again from the USA - State of Connecticut.
Tom Goes to the Mayor was created very recently, to the best of my knowledge, at least 10 years following the last run of Northern Exposure. So unless this DVD with your episode was re-dubbed with that song later (which would explain the incorrect listing in the credits) the song predates TGTTM.
As a fan of the latter show, I too would like to find the song's source. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the show's crators, are celebrated for their creativity and I would not put it past them to have written the song... but it seems sort of unlikely.
So if you do find out, please let me know. Thanks!
I just got an e-mail about this post from a James D. on gmail. I hadn't realized that this post had additions past my thank you to Alex.
The song credited on the Northern Exposure episode list for 'Heros' - "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was not used , I think because the show did not have the rights to the song and so replaced it with 'Calendar'.
I never heard from Davin Wood and couldn't get through the "Tom goes to the Mayor" DVD's - not my thing. My search kind of stalled from there but I've never forgotten that song. I'll track it down - It took me 30 years to find a John Anderson and Vangelis song I loved when I was 14 called 'So long ago, So clear' so I think that says I'm persistent. and the internet is a wonderful thing.
Well, my curiosity is peaked again. I may do some more searching and post agian if I find out anything. Thanks for keeping it alive.
