CD vs VINYL

nowdays because most of the promostuff comes in cd and it's not that "forbidden " to play cd's anymore...

I would like to know how cd has changed your dj'ing....

Personally for me it has meaned a little less vinyls + a chanse to put all your valuable vinyls+some "unplayable" vinyls also in cd format...Much more easier + less things to carry.

Nowdays even if i have most of the stuff i play on vinyls i play still some of the stuff on cd and the vinyl is in my collection...i have this "obvious" sound on vinyls with me but if i need to for example play more harder etc. set i have thatkind of sound on cd's with me...not in vinyl....

Let me know ya thoughts.

It's a good question. I sort of dropped vinyl after the last Canada adventure in July (mainly to avoid questions in customs and checking the bag on the flight) and have continued to play CDs only since then. It is easier to bring more stuff, there are no feedback problems or skipping needles with CDs and I find that really relaxing. When I played with Neil Nuff daytime in Ibiza last Saturday, he was stressing out every other record since one turntable was funked and I just stood there smiling, hehe

I can only agree Stone. I personally prefer using CD's as well.

I was only playing in Spain a month ago, I always bring my cd wallet as hand luggage but the vinyl went underneath and needless to say they didnt turn up at Stansted on my return... (I should have known better I know).

Many DJ's I speak to are paranoid about using CD's. Some guys I DJ with regularly used to laugh at me a year ago when I used them and they stuck to vinyl. They are now all using them and praising what they can do. I find now that you are just so limited with vinyl and altho people like the 'live' and 'real' sound, the effects and tools on a CDJ, even something as simple as the clock countdown, can only help your performance as a DJ.

Of course one risk of using CD's only is turning up at a club with a cheap/imitation CD set up, (mind you how many have tired/worn decks?) but in any reputable club this would never be a problem. Would be interested to hear other peoples thoughts...

Yeah. Actually most of "normal" nightclub here in Finland they have this crap cd players (not pioneers) but most of the party they have pioneer 1000 players (which in my opp are the best). So playing cd's in crap players is horrible....but that suits also in turntables.

It's a shame that nightclubs / "normal" discos won't put a littlebit more effort / money to the dj booth, and that's why you most of the time (if you go to play on "normal" party) need to bring your own cd player.

Nowdays i have something like 40-50 vinyls with me and cd's. Just couple of days ago i buyed some stuff on traxsource and put the vinyls in my case to my collection...cd allways have the same quality of sound, but some old vinyls which i have played like hell...well they have no sound at all basicly ...So getting some stuff from cd is much easier...

Most "obvious" tracks i have on vinyl offcourse.

And about flying - i made one of my carreer highlight this summer and played in moscow, and yeah the way how they handled the case....i was REALLY affraid that how many pieces i got my records (actually i checked them in moscow and also when i was back in finland). Only one of the sleeves was a littlebit damaged but not more....

Much of talking...hope not too much bollocks...
