Man, you gotta love the north! Expectations were high and Ronster had been rallying the troops for weeks (you like it dirty, you like it funky?) so I was getting ready for the biggest weekend of the year as I arrived in Manchester on the Friday. After a quick check in, we drove to Leeds to meet Mad Barry and Rich Skiddle & Co. When we came to KTF, main man Rob Tissera was mysteriously missing and it wasn't until a few hours later we learnt that he had jumped into a beam in excitement and cut his head open. Anyway, I took over after the Trophy Twins, who played a wicked set btw and The Mission, which the venue is called, is very similar to The Arches in Glasgow and The Cross in London in terms of the rooms (arches) and it always creates that underground vibe. The system is loud and pumping so it the energy level in that club is great. Had such a good time in there! We did miss Kris Kandi, but gathering from his report here earlier I now understand why (see ya next time).
The next day we hooked up with the Scots and went for Dim Sum in Manchester and those guys were getting ready for the night early let me tell ya. Rich Skiddle hadn't slept at all since the night before so he decided to join in as well. We arrived in the club around 11 and it was a good vibe building already and the Twisted One, Alan played some really cool stuff. When I took over, I immediately felt that it would be a great night and that the crowd was defiantely more clubby than the year before. These guys have spent a long time building their night and it's solid. Hey, I even decided to drop a proper old school jam for the first time in ages, Richie Havens 'Back To My Roots' and it was amazing to see the reaction. We stayed and listened to the other Twisted man, Pat, who played a wicked set. What can I say - great weekend and it's rare that both nights are as good as this - thanks to the whole posse; Ronster, Joey, Kerry, Mad Barry, Kris K, The Scots, Rich Skiddle & Co - Here's to 2006!
