My first to South Korea and didn’t quite know what to expect, but I discovered quickly like in Taiwan, that it’s highly developed and as a European I immediately got reminded how behind we can be; our mobiles don’t work here since they have switched to G3 networks ages ago. Still, being disconnected over a weekend can be quite relaxing. The first gig was a brand new beauty salon opening and the crème of Seoul actors, models and other celebrities had gathered to see what it’s all about. Not your average clubbing crowd, but I managed to get them moving towards the end and getting away with playing two different versions of what looks like what will be my next artist single.

The next day we went to the biggest electronics store I’ve seen in a highrise. I was looking for a recordable MP3 player to record sets and the first thing I see is a Sorell machine with 1 GB disc, smaller than a matchbox for 200 dollars - amazing really. We were staying in the incredibly swanky W hotel where the club is based in the reception. How I got away with playing loud there is a mystery, but it went off from the go and just as I was about to relax after about an hour, half the floor decided to go for a drink. I guess Korea is not completely up to speed on the by now standard dirty tunage we play in Europe, but by doing a quick detour into funkier territories I had them back so in all, pretty good night. Korea is very funky and cool and I can recomment it for the cosmopolitan looking for something different. It’s not a beach destination though, but the weather is like mainland Europe.
