French adventures with Chris Kaeser & Crew is always a blast and this weekend proved to be the most random crew gathering since Ronster flew to Australia. I arrived to a grey Paris on Friday afternoon and met up with Chris, Yves and Rita Campbell, who were flown in to do a live PA at the launch party. The club is one of those swanky restaurants come disco after midnight and the crowd was well stylish. The promoter was so like another promoter I work for in Montreal (Stevie B) that I had to ask and they are best friends and work together. How random is that? The resident played the discreetest selection I’ve hear in a long time and we didn’t even notice that he played house towards the end of his set. He must have been into it as he refused to let me on until 15 min into my set time. Knowing the crowd is a bit older, I took it easy and tried to play a bit funky. Then the promoter wanted the live PA, which I sort of mixed into my set. Rita is such a pro that the floor stayed on the the vibe remained intact. Then the promoter wanted the resident to go on and play some ‘big records’. The floor was packed and the whole club going off so I said no. After having survived the surprisingly smooth Aeroflot flight to Moscow (yeah, they only fly brand new Airbuses these days) I found myself stuck in the horrible traffic mess that is Moscow and finally a hotel, a message from Jolyon Petch, my New Zealand pal, awaited me. That is incredible coincidence! Moscow Oleg, Igor from Ukraine was there too and a Swedish DJ I met in Solidaritet last time - you gotta love the crew! This club is totally amazing and a DJs dream. Everybody I’ve spoke to that have played there say the same thing. A few oddities later, like a prerecorded 30 minute mix that the DJ before me played with punctuated ‘StoneBridge…idge….idge…’ IDs thrown in, I finally went on at 3.45 and dropped Jolyon’s track - all good and then continued the funky vibe as Moscow loves its funky house. Tried Thomas Gold’s new mix of Big Bass and even played Put ‘Em High’ in the end - wicked night!
