My good friend Phil from Seatlle, a regular from my Vancouver shows, hooked me up in this really cool little club in Seatle called See Sound Lounge. We met for a bit of a crew meeting and guys, this man has a crew with capital C - at least 25 people came to the dinner and the excitement was amazing even before the show. After a bit of reconfiguring the system, Phil’s friend started and played a really nice first set and around 12, I went on and decided to go very funky at first. Then I went a bit tribal and ended with a string of really big tunes. When I dropped the Klaas mix of DJ Disciple, I realised that Seattle is where grunge rock came from and I should probably have had a few cheeky bootlegs with me as it ripped the club to pieces. Wicked night and if I hadn’t flown in from Stocjholm the same day, I would have joined the guys to the afterparty (I’m weak, I can’t do 30 minutes - it’s gotta be all or nothing). Thank you Phil, great to see all your friends again - I will be back!

A very short flight later, maybe 35 minutes, I touched down in Vancouver to go to Whistler. This is one of my favourite gigs as it always goes off. The crowd is very international with a lot of Australians so it always feels like an extension to the Australia tours. This time the sound had been upgraded and the booth organised a bit better. I came on at 12 and got the place jumping all the way to the end. Savio let his hair out at 1.30 and that is always a sign the party is rocking (as is the Canadians’ habit of sendingTequila shots into the booth every other minute). Great night!

After a few days of chilling in Vancouver - great city for food and shopping by the way - the trciky gig of the tour was about to be unleashed. As some of you know, I’m kind of picky with sound and always avoid clubs under hotels as there’s always some sort of limitation going on. This one, Opus, did look good and apparetnly there was a crazy NYE party here so I had my hopes up. As I took over, I killed the monitors to get my stuff together and the crowd just looked at me. The monitors were the sound system. Great. Nothing we haven’t experienced before and what you have to do is rotate the monitors for every mix and then back after, which is a bit of a pain. The crowd was good though and my crew from Seattle, Phil and his friends, came up and got it going. Thank God for the crew - you guys rock!

Woke up with a flu like cold and decided to get this kick ass cold medicines they have in North America. In Sweden you get a little sugar pill and that’s it. After a few hours I was OK and boarded the flight to Calgary. This was my return to the same promoter, Thomas Lynch, as last time in October and I’m telling you, this guy knows how to do things right. The club, or lounge, consisted of a massive stack off bass bins and four tops on top, just next to the booth (sidenote to promoters: if you put the bass near the booth, the DJ will keep the volume in check and won’t blow the system). It was pure joy to get up there and just play anything from vocal to dub. The warm up was very electronic so I sort of kept that vibe for an hour. Absolutely love Calgary and have never done a bad show here - thanks guys!

At this time I had developed a flu and wasn’t feeliong too hot, but as they say, the show must go on and thanks to Steve that picked me up we had a good run through the mountains to Banff, which is where they shot Brokeback Mountain and many other films. The club Aurora is cool, did a show there last year so I had an idea of what to expect. Like Whistler, there’s a lot of Australians so the dirt goes down well here. Longest Road, Brian Cross and the more slamming tunes got the party totally rocking. On the way back to Sweden my computer died a death so it wasn’t until today I could retrieve this document. The forces were working against me, but not for long. Off to the ice hotel tomorrow for new adventures.
