New York will always be New York and that's where shit happens so without wasting a minute I went straight from Newark Airport to he genius that is Chris Malinchak (the man who did all those amazing Hott 22 mixes) for a bit of a creative blast in his studio. We came up with the most amazing idea for a track for my forthcoming album. Time just flew away and I had to rush into the city to check in and go to a NYC style music biz network event, which was very interesting and I met people I haven't spoken to in years. A quick dinner and meeting the other half of Hott 22, I finally crashed with a big grin.
Next day, David Chang picked me up to venture down to Chinatown for Dim Sum. I know, I'm obsessed and NYC is one of the best places to get it so excitement was in the air. It was one of the better ones I've tried I might add - awesome. As the sun came out and David's girlfriend joined us, we took one of those massive walks you do in the city with occasional stops for the Dutch Special; beer and espresso. Great combination actually. Before we knew it, it was time to venture out to Astoria, Queens, which happens to be one of the biggest Greek communities outside Greece. The club was like a Greek fishing village with white walls mixed with that Morrocan Lounge vibe you see all over these days. The promoter was amazingly generous and let us clean up with a huge dinner and whatever we needed to it. Then the place gradually turned into a club and the residents played well even though I can't say it was a warm up set. Around 1.30 I went on and did what I usually do in these situations and played some funkier sounds. As it progressed and Bonnie Bailey shouted from the side, things got proper dirty and they took pretty much anything towards the end. Great night and I will definitely come back there as long as they bring it a bigger sound as that was the only thing that wasn't top notch.
Before catching the flight the last day, I went back to Chris to finish the track. Decided to come back in July for some more on my way to Vancouver and the west coast tour. Special thanks to the NYC crew for a wicked time!
