Need ideas for strawberries

I love the giant strawberries and occasionally we're able to buy them by the flat here in Alaska. My problem is, they're only available for a few weeks. So, I was wondering if I could buy them and do something with them so that I could use them later. How do strawberries freeze? Does anyone know what needs to be done to them BEFORE freezing? I don't buy enough to make preserves but I'd be interested in toppings or desserts.

Any ideas??
