Response to FSH question for Donna |
|
Hi there,
Regarding your FSH question. Back when I first started going through the infertility workup, my OB (who was a military doc) tested all my blood. But here's where she was wrong, she didn't time the FSH blood test with Day 3 of my cycle. Instead she did it randomly on like CD20 something. It came back then at 9. She told me anything below 10 was "normal". Even then, a 9 was very high for someone my age of 26! Yet she never seemed to care, so I didn't. I thought everything was great.
So a YEAR later when I moved onto an RE finally, after DH got out of the servic, my RE tested my FSH on Day 3.
That hadn't ever been done and my RE thought it important. It came back at 12. She retested it with the Clomid Challenge Test and it came back at 20, very bac. I was told anything under 15 you have a small chance of concieving, and anything over 15 your chances are nill. I was also told I would be a very poor responder since my level of 20 indicated that my ovaries had "shut down" and stopped producing eggs that were fertilizable. I was told to use Donor Eggs.
I even went and looked at their Donor Book.
Anyhow, 4 months after finding out of my high FSH, I concieved to despite the odds. I am 27 with an FSH of 20, and it shocked the docs for sure. They said they hadn't ever seen someone this young with that high of FSH. My older sister was going to donate her eggs for us to do IVF, and she had her FSH tested. She is 38 and it was only 2.4! I was shocked.
Anyhow, I hope that gives you the info you needed. Bottom line, FSH must be tested on Day 3 to be correct. Let me know what yours is and how things turn out. =) Take care!
Love Donna
