Hi everyone. I just stated my first round of clomid. Since my insurance does not cover any infertility, my gyn and I decided to do a very minimum amount of testing (just blood tests to check prolactin and thyroid function) and just go for the clomid for a few months. I am starting out on 50 mg. I read that some women experience some cramping while ovulating when on clomid. Any one have this experience? What other side effects can I expect? Anyone get lucky the first time around? Thanks for any insight!

I hope that you have much success with Clomid the first time around. Here is what I know about it/my experience:

I had a lot of ovary pain while on Clomid. The first time was the worst. It was not unbearable but it was really odd to be able to feel so much. Clomid can also extend your cycle, cause headaches, mood swings and hot flashes. Those are fun.

Will they be doing any monitoring with this cycle? Were you checked for cysts before you started? It's very important that you are checked because if you do have any cysts, Clomid will make them bigger.

How long have you been ttc? I know that you will find a lot of support here. The other girls will surely have more info for you. I hope this helps.

Good luck!

clomid

hi there. i just finished my first cycle of it. i was given 100mg for days 5-9 of my cycle. i was crabby, i craved weird things (i don't ever crave stuff so that was odd), was dizzy AND have extreme bouts with hot flashes.

i had the blood tests done and didn't bother to ask if my ins covered it. hopefully it does -- but if not, at least i know. basically the clomid is not going to help me and we found that out by way of the blood tests. i wish you much luck!

Hi Lisa,

Welcome, I hope you will get all of the information you need here. I have a couple of questions, Why were you put on 100mg of clomid for your first cycle? Do you have any children? Why did your Dr. put you on Clomid without doing blood work first/or did he? The blood work will tell you a lot depending what type of blood work you had. I think you need to give clomid a chance. Don't give up based on the results of the blood work. Some of those test have to do with timing and detecting LH surge on the predictor kits. I hope your insurance will cover the blood work, that always a help and it stinks to have that on your mind.
Also, I have the some of the same side effects; crabby and hot flashes at night that wake out of sleep. It stinks and I wish we didn't have to go through this. Good luck!!!

Love,
Nancy
