FSH question for Donna

Donna,

I can remember you saying that your FSH numbers were high and this had something to do with your eggs. Was your RE the only Dr. that ever did the CD3 blood tests? Did you have good progesterone results when you test 7-9 days after ovulation? I'm so scared, I just had my blood taken yesterday and it is 3 am and I can't sleep. I hope my results are okay. I did get preganant once, eventhough that didn't turn out too well. I 'm not sure if that was just a flook type of thing or I just beat the odds.

My RE doesn't want me to do injections for another 2 more cycles of IUI. He is concerned about multiples. He is so positive about me getting pregnant, I wish I could be that way. DH has lost all hope and doesn't think the IUI will work and we will need IVF. We were just so positive this cycle that it back fired.

Thanks for all your help.

Love,
Nancy

Nancy.....

Hi there,

Regarding your FSH question. Back when I first started going through the infertility workup, my OB (who was a military doc) tested all my blood. But here's where she was wrong, she didn't time the FSH blood test with Day 3 of my cycle. Instead she did it randomly on like CD20 something. It came back then at 9. She told me anything below 10 was "normal". Even then, a 9 was very high for someone my age of 26! Yet she never seemed to care, so I didn't. I thought everything was great.

So a YEAR later when I moved onto an RE finally, after DH got out of the servic, my RE tested my FSH on Day 3.
That hadn't ever been done and my RE thought it important. It came back at 12. She retested it with the Clomid Challenge Test and it came back at 20, very bac. I was told anything under 15 you have a small chance of concieving, and anything over 15 your chances are nill. I was also told I would be a very poor responder since my level of 20 indicated that my ovaries had "shut down" and stopped producing eggs that were fertilizable. I was told to use Donor Eggs.
I even went and looked at their Donor Book.

Anyhow, 4 months after finding out of my high FSH, I concieved to despite the odds. I am 27 with an FSH of 20, and it shocked the docs for sure. They said they hadn't ever seen someone this young with that high of FSH. My older sister was going to donate her eggs for us to do IVF, and she had her FSH tested. She is 38 and it was only 2.4! I was shocked.

Anyhow, I hope that gives you the info you needed. Bottom line, FSH must be tested on Day 3 to be correct. Let me know what yours is and how things turn out. =) Take care!

What was your P4 results?

Hi Donna,

Thanks for the information. Did your Dr. check your progesterone levels? Where numbers high? I was just wondering if having a good progesterone level would mean your fsh level is okay? Your story is truly an amazing inspiration to me. I haven't gotten my results yet. I'm busting and my Re's office thinks I'm crazy . I wrote stat on my own blood work form so I would have the results back today. I'll let you know.

Love,
Nancy

FSH results

March 21 2003, 5:09 AM

Hi Donna,

i was relieved to find out that my fsh is 3.1, estradial is 33. I was told that this is fine. I'm having a hsh on 3/26. I had one last year and that was the month that I conceived. My RE feels I don't need it since the one I had last year was normal, but he will do it since I'm insisiting. Thanks for all your advice and help.

Love,
Nancy

Great News Nancy!

HI,

I am glad to hear all is well with your FSH, it sounds like you are well on your way between good blood work, great P4, and doing another HSG. I remember yours last year, cause we had ours the same month ironically. Mine was a disaster, I can't imagine begging any doc to do it again. (ha ha)

My p4 has always been good, I never have had any problems with it. There were a few months over this last summer, where I didn't ovulate though. But other htan that, it was great.

TAke care!
love Donna
