I've heard of SEVERAL WWII ships having unofficial nicknames. One that comes immediately to mind is LST 491, "The Ol' Double Trouble." I'm not aware that 325 ever had a nickname but Dave might know.
By the way, Dave also wrote the "Ship's History" page on the website.
In the early 50's, LST's were given official names. For instance, my Dad's ship, LST 1110 was named San Bernardino County. At that time, they were all named after counties (those still in active naval commission, that is). SOMEWHERE along the line they changed that to include counties AND cities. Just to make things confusing for the LST 1110 WebSkipper and the general public, LST 1189 "was named San Bernardino after a county and city in California." (DANFS Vol. VII)
