I didn't know that either, mostly because I've never had any problems and I've been doing it for years. Then again, I don't want any problems! Yes, I confess to having 100W bulbs in 60W fixtures. It just seems more gloomy with the 60's. But a fire would be gloomier still. I will definitely be replacing them with 60's as soon as I can get to the store tomorrow. High Priority -- you've got me scared now.
Well, they're not completely enclosed ... they have the glass thingies bracketed below, giving about 2 inches of clearance. And yeah, I imagine there's a certain amount of heat build-up. So 60's might clear up that problem as well. Then again, they always blow when I first turn on the switch ...
