In Mobile a winter or two ago a man and wife came to see the ship. She worked on one side of the river and him the other, both had to do with building LST's. He was a supervisor, She a supply Cleak, She knew how many valves, there size, lengths of pipe, fresh water preasher tank, two pumps, preasher gage, and on and on in the Starbord Shaft Ally ! Any way She refered to the Ladies working on the T's as - The TORCH TOTEN MOMAS -
I remember some things for ever - and a short statement by Capt. Ed Crow at 0300 in the Atlantic as we leaned over the hand rail, staring out over the ocian in the light of the moon, drinking our first cup of real black coffie, prepairing to go on watch,- I will never forget.-He said- THIS IS A VERY SLOW SHIP ( He spoke so softly ) I SEEN A PIECE OF DRIFT WOOD PASS US !
