As a baker, I'm sure you were kept busy on board... I learned about the weevils from two of the cooks on board during the time my Dad was. Merle and Bob did their best to get rid of them... but when rations were short, they had to take whatever they could get. Unfortunately, one time the flour was contaminated. From what I understand, they sifted it, hoping it would help. I was told that once they were able, they dumped everything and scrubbed the bins out. In the meantime, the fellows picked them out of the bread...if they passed through the screening used to sift the flour.
