Response to Hoisting Victor.... (I require assistance...)

I have read that to. It seems to be a British thing and may had been constructed of large timbers, so as to be cleared away after landing the tanks. Only 2 tanks could be employed this way, firing over the bow and the height dictated by the tank employed.

There were instances during the some operations in New Guniea(sp) where LCT mk5's loaded 2-3 Shermans and fired broadsides at shore emplacements in support of infantry operations. This information can be found on ww2lct.org under the stories. They also have some D-Day action reports for reading.
