Gentlemen: I appreciate your coments and suggestions. This is just our second year, so we know we have improvements to make and will make some. Evansville does have every resturant, Greek, Mexican, Chinese, Steak, Pasta, you name it. Everyone has a phone book, and we had brochures. like every city, shopping and places to eat have moved out on the edge.
Bill, I am sorry that you had a bad time - you were the only one that I know of. Nothing has been mentioned about the LST 325, which should be the real reason to come to Evansville, support the ship and the city that has given us a free dock and welcomed us with open arms. Nothing was mentioned about the FREE rides we gave. What city are you going to go to and get that? Nothing was mentioned about the two FREE receptions, one with General Patton; the hospitallity room where you should have met your friends. No the Hotel is maybe not 4 or 5 star -- but look at the price, look at that free breakfast buffet, look at the shuttle buses, and coutesy vans, free parking. One of my goals was to make this LST WEEK affordable to all. Bill I know you can't afford a 5 star hotel! What did the tours cost you? What did the banqet cost? The food was really good too. The Cantin show cost $5,000 -- you paid $10.00. the ship broke even. Name tags were big enough, and as for the Gold Crew - what do you want? This LST WEEK is for all ship's and crews. Do you want a parade? Do you expect NBC or CBS that the Gold Crew is in town? We now have had 5 trips since bringing the ship back, I only recognized the Illinois River trip crew because they deserved it -- after being on tour for almost 30 days and showing the LST 325 to 38,000 people! Bill you have no idea of the work involved showing that ship every day for 16 days straight as we did in Peoria. Yes, the Gold Crew will always be important for what they did, but that was 7 years ago. As you said what is important now is keeping it going.
