(In answer to Rocky and Donk) Surely you are not insinuating that if you knew my name that you would consider my request more seriously and maybe even join in with me to have the tour guides speak a bit more of other LSTs and the other wars and events in which they were involved? As I stated before, itís not about me, and you donít need my name to act on my request. My Memorial Membership card indicates Iím a member in good standing for the year 2008 and a little longer. My name was clearly printed on the ballot I mailed in when voting for the Board of Directors. No one has a question about my name when I mail my donation checks to the memorial. There was no question of my name when they accepted my credit card for purchases made at the gift shop. No one questioned what my name was when I stuffed the twenty dollar bills into the donation boxes on the ship during the tours and cruises. No one asked my name when I purchased all those raffle tickets. So there is no doubt itís not about me or my name.
(In answer to Tailbucks) Iíve been donating from the beginning and expect to continue. I would hope that some of these funds are used for such items as pamphlets. If money is the reason the full history of LSTs is not in the pamphlets now being distributed, then possibly more of the donations should be diverted in that direction. By the way, I took the Memorial Pamphlet, made about 50 copies, and sent them to the areas American Legion Hut and Veterans of Foreign Wars Unit. I have no way of knowing if any of the Vets visited the Memorial, but I made the effort. Iím will not ask that you donate toward the costs of this.
As for me giving tours, it would be an honor, but there is this distance problem. Possibly if I attend LST Week again for the third time I could relieve some of the tour guides and could (as you suggest) change the tour description to include the LSTs that served after WWII. Considering the negative comments received from almost everyone concerning my recommendations for additions to the tour descriptions, it appears that the only way it will happen would be for me to do it myself. Even the President of the Board of Directors (a Vietnam Vet) is against my suggestions. So mote it be.
