anchored as before-2.5 miles North of EASY RED BEACH,OMAHA AREA.Baie de LA Seine. NORMANDY.FRANCE. CONDITION two maintained.DEGAUSSING system on, Awaiting arrival of RHINO to unload ship, C ruisers and battleships continue shelling beachhead area. Frequent anchor cable inspection.
USS TEXAS firing onto beachhead area.Enemy batteries seem to be shelling beach, ship seemed to be hit, but fire quickly extinguished.
Large explosion in Villiers sur mer region. smoke and flames seen.
2140Second explosion close to first. Both places now smoking greatly. great flames.
Message received directing all ships near beach to remove to safer area.
Battleships and cruisers continue barrage into omaha beach area. Area hazy with gunfire smoke and smoke from beach.
general quarters.
all stations manned and ready shipo reported watertight and secured .
