One other thing about that sea trials picture (I think you mean the one with the fire hose being tested off the port side?). The picture was taken off Norfolk, I think in 1964. If you look closely, that's the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel in the background, and if you look REALLY closely, you can see behind it is the water tower at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base. Moving ahead 41 years (!!) the location LST-325 in that picture is almost exactly the spot where we anchored for the night in May 2005, before we headed on up the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River on the way to the Alexandria, VA port visit. Nice coincidence!
