Who will tend the farm?

In the village there is talk of war
Most common folk dont know what the fightings for
They tend their crops and raise their kids
They have heard of war but dont understand what it is
As long as one man has what another man wants and decides to take it by force
The people have to defend themselves or let tyranny take its course
A decision then must be made; do we fight or do we face harm?
Who goes off to war for us and who stays to tend the farm?
The crops wont last long if no one here remains
If no one goes to fight, we loose everything we have gained
If we decide that what we have is surely worth fighting for
We must decide who remains to tend the farm and who goes off to war
Some will volunteer to fight for you
But they ask one thing for you to do
If they should fall and not return
Give them the respect that they have earned
To those who remained to tend the farm
Safe in the knowledge you are free from harm
Never forget those who went off to war
Or forget why and what they were fighting for
