We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

Hi Cindy!

We have our profile with Robin Steele and CHASK this time. I will also send our profile to individual agencies if/when I hear a new situation come up. I belong to several different DS adoption groups that post available babies/children from time to time.

Last time we also looked into adopting through the system, and we were one of three families being considered for a little girl w/DS, but due to a mixup over our agency's phone # on the day of the baby's placement meeting, we were excluded from being considered, and lost her to another family. We aren't going to even try that direction this time...too much heartache to want to "go there".

Although we didn't have a good experience with Spence Chapin, their fees are quite reasonable. Another agency I've heard about is Gladney in Dallas, but their fees are around $6K, which is a bit steep for a special needs adoption. A facilitator that has placed several babies w/DS is HeavenSent Adoptions...I think they have an available baby boy right now (but the fees are pretty high).

I'm trying to think of where else to try. Are you interested in international adoption at all? If so, I would recommend Reece's Rainbow, which has the best and most comprehensive international photolisting of babies and young children w/DS. A wonderful international agency to try is WACAP, which provides very generous grants that cover all agency & country fees for children w/DS. The only expenses you'd have would be for your homestudy, immigration fees, and travel. WACAP also provides no interest loans to help with travel expenses.

Hope this helps, and if I think of any others, I'll let you know. Good luck with your search!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...we live in a rural Kansas farming community. Love that small town life!

Blessings,
