End Of Season Bash info...

The Maple Leaf End Of Season Bash will take place on Sunday 28th May - with a 6.45pm start in the Royal Oak pub, and then onwards for a tour of Stourbridge's drinking establishments - with a highly likely curry at the end of the night.

The many awards for the differing categories will be presented throughout the night...

'Tis usually a great night out, with only Tony requiring hospitalisation at the end - so please try to make it.

I thought 28th was a Sunday. Is this just a spelling mistake? I am now worried about the minutes for the AGM making sense.......

shite - you are right, mate - the bash will indeed take place on Sunday the 28th May.

Will edit the initial post to now make some sense (that's what happens when I don't pay attention at these things)...

Maple in training ground/club secretary confusion

May 13 2006, 12:15 AM

Maple Leaf Rovers found themselves in real difficulties coming into the off season.

A beer soaked AGM saw the unfortunate Campbell being lumbered with getting new training accommodation and being 'training manager' for the year - a title inferred on the poor equine with meerly a whimper of protest from the man they call Horse.

More crucially the position of club secretary was given by video conferencing to 'lynch pin' Lycett - only for it to be turned down the following day in what can only be described with the headline 'Lycett Leaves Left Flank for Last Time'

He will be sorely missed. I'm sure all at Maple wish Lycett all the best with his retirement from the game and a message from this reporter to the veteran winger - 'please remember to bring your £3 for the first game of the new season - we'll be a man short and in need of someone down the left'

So, with Lycett out of the picture who will be taking on the mammoth task of club administrator/secretary?

The odds at the moment are:-

Shingles - 10/1
Lewis - 10/1
Homer (E) - 15/1
Asante - 15/1
Homer (P) - 25/1
Scolari - 6/4

Maple need to sort this out quickly and decisively - we all hope that a decision can be made before the world cup so we can all get plastered every day whilst watching footie safe in the knowledge that someone's manning the administerial pump.

Clouds hang over maple... star strikers leaving, other strikers staying, midfield dynamos threatening to quit, lazy luxury midfield players being promoted to assistant coach, stupid purple dinosaur running the website... dark times indeed....

We at the Daily Rag hope maple come through this and make 06/07 the best season ever...

Vote Lewis.

The fecker has done it before - and done it well, plus it'll give him something football related to do until he returns from injury sometime in December.

(and then falls over and injures himself again).

Fine suggestion young Sadler...

Seconded.

Lewis in a Secretary/Director of football role gets my vote too!!

Following frenzied media speculation and several paparatzi types camping out on my doorstep, I have decided to formally turn down the opportunity to become club secretary.

I thank the board of MLRFC for their interest but I'd rather spend my retirement from the beautiful game in the pub.

By the way; I'd say your chances of getting Lewis to do it again are slim to none.

The Maple Leaf End-Of-Season Award Winners were (I think - bound to have got some of the wrong, so apologies if so)...

Best Player..... John Warr

Rookie Of The Year..... Brett Mander

Top Goalscorer..... Eddie Homer

Best Goal..... Brett Mander (vs Aston Youth?)

Most Improved Player..... Stew Walker

Clubman Of The Year..... Bob Gibbons

Own Goal Of The season..... Stew Walker (Ste was awarded this in Barney's absence)

Comedy Moment..... 'You've Never Seen A Salad' - sung by some kids to a portly Old Wulfs player at Britannia Park.

Best Odour..... Rob the Stallion

Best Dressed..... Iain Mitchell

Best Reason for not playing..... Neil Fisher (watching the Rockford Files)

Also seem to remember Mitch taking an eternal 48 seconds to down a pint for an award he won - though I do think he missed out on the forfeit of downing another for being the Slowest Drinker of the night!!!

That'll have to be carried over and forfeit completed a few minutes before the 1st game of the season.

A big thanks to Shingo for organising the voting and compering another fine evening - with added bonus of novelty prizes this year. Rob and Bob must be very proud...

If I missed any awards out - or got some of them wrong, feel free to correct me below.
