G'day from the Land Down Under

I've been in the Internet marketing business for a whole 4 weeks, and one of the things I've learned really quickly is that I need traffic to get my site functioning. Can anyone give me any advice on how to generate traffic? Given the nasty exchange rates (I'm in Australia) which wipe out most of my budget, free or low cost ideas would be very much appreciated!
