I know Rutten´s street fighting doc and saw it many times.
Compare him to Geoff Thompson for example. Thompson was a bouncer for 15+x years in England and Scotland. The guy has more experience in street fights than Bas and Tommy together.
I know Goeff s opinion on combat sports, martial arts and self defence.
Is MMA a good base for street fights? Yes it is, not more and not less.
Is JKD a good base for street fights? Yes too, not more and not less.
About Tommy: I do not agree with him on street fighting, you pointed out the reasons why. He teaches his people like "one finger jab / knee kick -> fight is over.
BUT: It s like talking about Mike Tyson vs Muhammad Ali or Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan, speculative.
There would be just ONE WAY to find out if Tommy is right or you (Davey): A fight between Tommy and an MMA Pro in a street fight, for example vs. Bas (Tommy is about 5 years older but it s not that much).
If Bas crushes him, anyone will believe in you. If Tommy can finish him with his finger jabs / groin/knee kicks, anyone will believe in Tommys words.
But so: Anything is speculative.
