Just some random quick thoughts:
Bruce aim was simplicity in fighting so no wasted motion. Discard the unessential and get to the essence of fighting which is to put your opponent away in the simplest way - use the right tools at the right time and they cover all angles. How to maintain and control distance and close the gap instantly - a weakness of WC was their footwork and covering all angles. Bruce used the fencing approach and modified his WC. To cover all angles he adding boxing tools - hook, uppercut, lateral movement etc. To be a total fighter he later added grappling. If the unexpected happened he had those skills as part of his arsenal. Bruce was never static - he was always learning, creating, adapting and moving on.
The real secret of martial arts is to train your butt off but keep to the essence and test it for real. Try different situations, spar different opponents etc. Like anything you get out what you put in! The only way to really learn is to do it!
