WTF Ukraine??
What's there to visit? Except blown up nuclear reactors
Crimea is where a lot of Russians go for a summer vacation, when I was there it was pretty much built for tourists.
I am however surprised that Russia is in the top 15, I always took it to be a place more or less where tourist enthusiasts go. I guess Moscow with its high class shopping is attracting a new wave of tourists.

Also Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Toledo, Cordoba are beautiful cities with rich cultural history and just plain beautiful scenery and climate. Spain is where its at in the summer time.

You'd be surprised at the rich cultural history, cheap accommodation and living expenses and beautiful scenery in general. Ukraine is the next major destination after the fall of the Iron curtain after the Czech Republic and Poland.

Problem is the whole red tape crap with Russia. You need to go through a travel agent who 'sponsors' you, get the proper Visa (which mind you can be revoked any time if a corrupt cop crosses your path)... then there's the whole problem of straying too far (you have to be in a certain radius of your tour).
You can't just 'wing' Russia (just do whatever you want how you want to, like I'm doing in Europe very soon))... And the Visa only last 30 days with very strict extension options (basically there is no option for extension).
I would love to go back to Russia, problem is its not very heartening when you hear cops pray on tourists just like the 'merchants' do. A friend of mine was waiting in line for some food, a local bought it for about 50% cheaper (he heard the price) just cause he is a tourist, they just randomly jack up the price.
I wanted to travel to Siberia and the Steppes regions, visit 'smaller' cities like Rostov, Pskov, Smolensk, Vladmir etc. Very rich in history with multiple cultures and influences over the centuries. Very much under rated over the Goliath like Moscow and cultural hub St. Petersburg.
Siege of Tobruk - One German POW said: "I cannot understand you Australians. In Poland, France, and Belgium, once the tanks got through the soldiers took it for granted that they were beaten. But you are like demons. The tanks break through and your infantry still keep fighting." Rommel wrote of seeing "a batch of some fifty or sixty Australian prisoners ... marched off close behind usimmensely big and powerful men, who without question represented an elite formation of the British Empire, a fact that was also evident in battle."
"As a Internet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
I still don't understand how Ukraine attracts more visitors than Turkey and Mexico. The latter two attract big markets like Western Europe and Latin America. I've never heard of western tourists visiting the Ukraine. If most of these visitors are Eastern European I don't see how that compares to Mexico whose right under the U.S, which has a group are the biggest foreign travelers.
"The way Mexico is today, at least the interior and border, I think I'd prefer to visit the Ukraine or Turkey myself if given an even choice."
The Cartels could control half of the country and I'd still prefer to go to Mexico over the Ukraine anyday. Turkey is great though, highly recommend it. But the violence hasn't really affected foreigners, and it is mostly in the North however their have been some pretty bad incidents in the South. I never understood the American fascination with Tijuana (or as the gringos say TJ! lol) it's a complete **** hole.
Maybe for some, but the vast majority are just kids looking for booze. Their is no real regulated drinking age, as opposed to the U.S where you have to be 21.

LOL. Boozing is just an excuse for going on a road trip. The real underlying reason is sex. LOL
BTW, Tijuana and other Mexican resorts don't just mean sex with Mexican hookers, it's also a setting for sex with other US college kids. Tijuana is just an exotic location. LOL

[edit] International tourism receipts
International tourist receipts were USD 96.7 billion in 2007, up from USD 85.7 billion in 2006. When the export value of international passenger travel receipts is accounted for, total receipts in 2007 reached a record of USD 1.02 trillion or 3 billion a day.[4] The World Tourism Organization reports the following 10 countries as the top ten tourism earners for the year 2007. It is noticeable that most of them are on the European continent, but the United States continues to be the top earner.
