Personally I think yes and that all successful nations will eventually become multi-cultural.

Yes. I think Australia is a great place to live and a multi cultural country. The other day I was enjoying Vietnamese food and the last weekend I was having good time with african + asian friends. Tonight I will be catching up with my Aussie girl and this weekend I plan to have a drink up with my polish friend accompanied by cherry vodka.
I think it is up to both immigrants and the authorities to make it work.

Eventually multiculturalism evolves into a single culture. It is a far easier process when those said cultures are compatible to begin with, otherwise they don't, and cause civil wars.
Siege of Tobruk - One German POW said: "I cannot understand you Australians. In Poland, France, and Belgium, once the tanks got through the soldiers took it for granted that they were beaten. But you are like demons. The tanks break through and your infantry still keep fighting." Rommel wrote of seeing "a batch of some fifty or sixty Australian prisoners ... marched off close behind usimmensely big and powerful men, who without question represented an elite formation of the British Empire, a fact that was also evident in battle."
"As a Internet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."
Canada is home to one of the most diverse populations of any Western nation. Racism isn't really an issue here. The attitudes of the people and government are a major driving factor in how well an immigrant will integrate.
Nationalistic societies that look down on outsiders/non whites (and like I mentioned in another thread. If the Germans here are any indication of the overall sentiment of said outsiders/non whites), these groups will tend to band together instead of integrating and "mingling" with other Germans, and will often show hostility towards the locals out of frustration.

I certainly agree that societal compatibility is factor in determining social cohesion, but I am wondering if that is more of minor factor than others. I look at Yugoslavia and that breakup, and I wonder if it wasn't poor leadership and short sided leadership on both sides that cause it to end in the catastrophe it did. In particular when compared to something like the Czechoslovakian breakup. At any rate something to think about.

Indian weather suxs too...we'll administer a true beating on youse guys next time..remember you heard from me first...Mr Anti Magpie! Come back Alan Border..we still love you
Pakistani's have not integrated into British culture well. Trouble is with countries like Canada is that their culture has barely begun to develop, they have almost grown from day 1 with immigrants, whereas Europe has not.
Ofcourse they can work, but countries that only allow in a certain amount of foreigners work better...IE Japan
Thing is,
In the USA and Europe there are plenty of ethnic minority communities...if they are in their communities that means they have not intergrated has failed surely?
Each 1st world nation should be able to slect who they want in there country based on valid concerns.

You will find no argument from me there...of course the trick to that is urban planning, first never let ethnic ghettos become so large that they are wholly self sustaining and I would say single best thing a nation could do is to place schools on the edges of ghettos and not in there centre...this forces integration of the youth. Which means teenagers in both communities will adopt mannerisms and habits of the other...to drive their respective parents crazy.

I don't think anyone is debating that all nations should be ale to select who they wish to allow to become citizens (I'm certainly not arguing that)...Panda, Notan?

IMO neither USA nor Canada are really "multicultural" states they are of course pluralistic countries but, especially the USA, they have also a strong own specific national identity
The US is multicultural in terms of the whites, blacks and generation 2+ east/southeast Asians. And its working with the Hispanics because the US doesn't fvck with Latin America anymore. But hanging around Latinos, you still hear the old anti-American sentiment even though they're living in the US.
I'm glad though that the US's multiculturalism doesn't totally erode a minority group's own niche. $hit would get super boring then.

In a free society you can not tell People where to live based on ethnic selection.
