Ever wondered....

how long it would take a 68ci tank @ 3k psi to empty if the burst disk failed. About a minute. Now imagine being awakened by this after being dead to the world for several hours. The funny part is before I actually woke up, I thought to myself "That's bad. Some poor guy is loosing all his air. Hope he's on the other side." Then realizing it was my air, I looked at both of my hands for my gun that wasn't there. Then I proceded to stumble through my room to the outer room where I fumbled through my bags thinking "Do I really want to find it before it's done?" Nope. And I don't even do drugs. ;-)

that is the first time I have ever heard of that

a burt disc on a HPA failing.

All in all it doesn't make any sense unless they filled it to 4500 thinking it was that, because temperature will not increase the pressure of a HPA tank.

Curious!

It really didn't have anything to do with the air in the tank. When a hpa disc blows it has to do with the disk. more then likely it was a bad disc. Or the reg is going bad on the tank. buddy of mine had a reg going bad and it would blow a disc about every 5 minutes. when it started he sent it by me to be refilled. i would get about 5 miles from the store and it would blow. after 3 eight dollar disc i decided he needed to get it filled him self.

I thought he discs on 3k were rated for 5k of pressure.
That is what mine says.

Anyways you are proably right, but as far as a reg causing a disc to fail. You'll have to explain that one to me.

you should have one that says 4500 to 5000, and one that says 1800 and something else. it blows the low end one. this is what i was told when i tried to get an answer to the reg blowing a disc. for some reason the reg lets the pressure build up on the low disc blowing a very small hole in it.it isn't like a co2 that builds pressure and blows, it's a very quick jolt of high pressure. like something slipped holding something back and it takes off. Now i don't know this for a fact but i do know that when i was helping a local store it was more commen then you think. and most of the time it was a pmi 48/3000. I could be mistaken but that was what i was told and after the tanks were sent off and the regs rebuilt they didn't do it anymore. this was also the older regs. you can rebuild them yourself now, but a lot of them are still in circulation. What happens is the air goes past the first disc rated at 5000 and into the reg where it gets lowered to 800 then thru the 1800 or what ever disc to the marker. if the reg foe some reason it gets a burst of 3000 psi or whatever the tank is and it blows a pin hole. most of the time it blows ahole smaller then a blown co2 disc. I know this sounds a little far fetched but i did see this happen. also seen a batch of bad burst disc. if it keeps happening it's the reg if not it was the disc. I like to tell some of my team think about it a .01 piece of copper holding back 3000 pounds. it has to get tired sometime.

We need to get together and compare notes. if you have been in middle TN, the whole time, more then likely we have meet up. I took around a ten year leave, execpt for some outlaw, and have just gotten back in for the last year and half. still like to pull my old pump out and watch the kids faces as they are trying to figure out what it is.
