| We lost one of the great ones. Former Leyden and Gordon Tech coach passed away last night. I will post details of funeral arrangements. I believe they will be in Franklin Park.

Chuck Farina's Leyden teams set the standard of excellence for Illinois high school wrestling from the 1950's through the 1980's. Their dual meet record was 592-85-7 over that timeframe, including a streak of 88 in a row from 1974-78. Year in, year out they were among the best. |

In Memory of Coach Farina
October 15, 2003
You
Surrogate father
Whose passion flares ever still
from those pensive moments
when time chewed on training will
while we practiced in dungeons
Making kings from conquered kill
When attitude makes champions from lesser skill
You
who built fires from our tears
reclaiming us
defining hope
shaping our yearning years
When winning was rescued from stolen fears
Go where you will
With your Lombardi sayings
Your fiercest stare
Your crouched body
leaning on the dare
Go with the hunch
that more winning
Winning
Winning
Is calling you somewhere
I'll see you there
