There is a post on the Illinoismatment site with the same subject that included some deragatory comments about me. The site won't post my response so I was hoping I could set the record straight here. Lock feel free to delete if you think this response is in inappropriate but I can not see how it is.
What was said about me:
Probably one of the toughest brackets along with 135. Not as impressed as I should have been by Hoffman -- for a guy ranked 11th nationally, he really should be dominating this bracket -- should have pinned his way through it. He's a very good mat wrestler (while riding, but not so much when on bottom). Wasn't impressed with the North coach's reactions to DeCap. It's understandable for a kid to be upset after a loss. It's not understandable for a coach to lose his cool like the North coach did. No excuse. He was woofing at everybody -- low class. Nelson looked very slow against DeCap in the semi, and didn't look for good shots to take. From the way the match unfolded, it looked like Nelson was waiting for DeCap to be overwhelmed by Nelson's strength advantage.
My response:
I would like to ask you what you think my reaction to DeCap was???? During the match in question I was being very vocal to my wrestling encouraging him to keep working Drew even though he (DeCap) was doing a good job of covering up so that he couldn’t work his offense from the top. At this point during the match, one of the fans yelled at me to shut up and sit down. I responded to the woman that I had the right to encourage my wrestler. After the match Drew walked toward toward our side of the mat as if he was going to shake my hand but instead said, “I’m not shaking your hand, f*** you.” Then tried to shake my assistants hand but when he didn’t stormed off. My response to that was to walk over to his coach and tell him what he said. I am truly at a loss as to what you think was low class in my response? By the way, although I was disappointed in the young man at his original reaction, he proved to be a classy young man when he approached me later and apologized for his behavior after the match. He is a quality wrestler and a quality person, whom I wish all the luck in the world to in the future. In fact, we would love to have him come work out with us during the freestyle/Greco season.
