I was talking to a friend of mine about Leica. He was printing stuff for a common friend who used Leica on his 5Dmk2. On the other hand, we both shoot Canon lenses with also the 5Dmk2 and him, also on a 1Ds3.
Just a brief backgrounder, my friend has two Epson printers (those big ones 99++ series), is a graphics designer and an architect, has a hassy H2D (first one in the country when he got his a few years ago), was an extensive Nikon shooter as well before he shifted systems two years ago to Canon. He has printed for Red Cross exhibits, etc. ad nauseam.
i'm just setting the story up for this conversation... which is about to come... :P
so he tells, "i viewed his RAW files upclose as i was really curious about the whole Leica bit. printed it. then looked it up close again."
"and?" i asked.
"i'm not seeing that Leica magic in the print". and he was printing them huge for this common friend of ours. 22 20x30 prints.
we then started talking about all the possibilities of why it was so and we were wndering if it really was a good idea to use hybrid stuff.
i mean, leica didn't design their lenses around a Canon body, yes?
anyway, the jury was still out. but from that perspective, he wasn't convinced about the whole Leica bit on a Canon body.
we were in agreement though that it needed to be seen used on a Leica body like an M8 or an M9 and then viewed upclose.
of course, he was scared shitless to tell our friend this bit of observation. hahaha!!!
