It's so true that the different phases of the image capture process are unique and reqire a different focus also impacted by the tools that the individual selects (e.g. camera format, digital sensor/film exposure technique, post processing media, color/b&w, etc.). The master printer (be it digital or wet print) does indeed need to work for the results.
As you mentioned there seem to be advantages and disadvantages to split contrast printing.... but if it works for a specific negative then it's a useful process.
AND... it looks like you are having fun
