there is such a thing as bad ramen, bad udon, bad soba... bad "men" in general, hahaha... "menn" means noodles such as udon and soba .
Or put it another way, some men is better than others ("is" because the noun is singular, which would take bit more explaination...). I am to the point were I can judge good rice, particularly sushi rice (cold cooked rice flavoured with vinegar). Soba is a little more difficult for me to judge, but I have gone with Japanese friends to the right establishments . Sake on the other hand is easy... and with everthing Japanese it takes an eye understand really quality, and that's part of the fun of traveling with friends.
I have not eaten at that particular restaurant... the location is poor as it's right next to a love hotel and I would guess that it's known more for drinking and location.
Visitors miss (miss-understand) most cultural issues and I have recently been talking to friends about the possibility to travel to the Tohoku Region (northeastern) Japan. It's a sensitive issue, more so than foreigners might realize. Good that I have some time to understand the implications and what is required of me if I travel there.
