I have a Cannon EOS 20D and would like to get a macro lens. Should I buy a new lens for this camera or should I trade for a different model. I kind of like the new lighter DSLR's.

it would be helpful if you could tell us what you like and what you dislike about your 20D.
There's a whole range of new, lighter DSLRs from various manufacturers, e.g. the brand-new Canon 1000D and the 450D, the Nikon D60, the Olympus E-420/E-520, the Pentax K200D or the Sony Sony DSLR-A300 to name but a few. They all have their specific pros and cons and the choice really depends on your needs.
My major dislike is the weight of the camera. I realize some of the newer models are much lighter and smaller, just not sure if that will make much difference.
Frankly, I don't think this makes such a big difference

The question is rather: DSLR or compact camera.
Everybody has to find out for himself whether the capabilities of a DSLR are worth the weight or not. I often carry around my (quite heavy) 5D with a (not so lightweight) 50/1.2 the whole day without taking a single picture. Sometimes this seems cumbersome indeed, yet knowing why I carry this weight, I have always been willing to face it.
I don't think it makes such a big difference whether your camera weighs 200g less or more. A DSLR, also a small one, with a decent lens mounted will always have its weight. So, instead of focussing on the weight I'd rather choose the camera that seems most ergonomic and familiar to me.
