The sakura coloured lamps are quite enticing and really makes one to want to follow the lights (at least by eyesight). I also enjoy the calm atmosphere of the empty street. It looks like they set it all up for you!
I just found it interesting that the pink colored lanterns stood out so much in contrast with the surrounding buildings in Akasuka. Thanks for looking!
of these lanterns is really quite striking. They virtually force one's eyes to follow them into the picture. It's also interesting how their straight lines somehow structure the shot. An effect which is emphasised by the slightly chaotic (and therefore contrasting) arrangement of all those cables.
I was also surprised by the mess of wires hanging all over. Tokyo's culture is so neat and organized that it was cool to capture this. Thanks for taking time to look and comment.
Man, you really have no choice but to follow the lights...

That row of pink just leads you to gaze far into the horizon with little regard for the other elements. There could be a story in there somewhere and you'd still be looking at those lanterns! Nice.
Ming, I thought it looked like the Akasuka area...

Particularly since you mentioned that you were headed in that direction . I could't catch the specific location for that festival (matsuri). Another early morning shot as I remember your photo of the bikes from Taipei?
You caught a typical shopping area near some station. The covered walkways are the norm in that part of Tokyo and/or the somewhat mature shopping areas. VB mentioned and many visitors are suprised by the overhead wires, but you do get use to them. Nice perspective and glad you could enjoy that peaceful part of Tokyo. Fortunately you escaped before the heavy rains and humidity.
It's always nice to see what others take photo of...

Hello Casey!
The pic was taken just a hour before it started to rain and it rained really hard! This quiet area is a contrast to all the activity in the nearby shops and tourists. Thanks for looking!
One can imagine the lights stretching to infinity...

...I particularly liked that you shot the perspective straight-on -- I might have tried some sort of odd angle, and completely missed the mesmerizing nature of this phot, which seems to go on and on.
The neat arrangement of the lanterns also mirrors the incredibly tidiness of the neighborhood. In another context I might interpret this as regimentation ("look, even the festive lanterns are perfectly arranged") but in this case the sense of order brings a calming sensation and the idea that the local residents take a lot of pride in their neighborhood.
