I'm unable to do such shots of my son. He can't be serious when he's OK to be shot, or he's hiding himself. I'm certainly a bad portrait photographer ! Or a bad Dad !

I placed a diffused 5500k light to one side and shot in M mode until I go the shutter speed just right. I ended up with about 1/80 second at f2.8.

From a shadow perspective I like the first two. If I consider the eyes (color), then the last one - where the face shadows might be a little complicated for a portrait.

Portraits are difficult.

sit still and moved into the shadow of the camera in that last one. I had the light high and to his left side. He was supposed to turn into the light but obviously he just could not. I love his eyes in that one but wish the shadow play was like the B&Ws.

and height, but my son has my wife's nose, eye shape and those big puffy cheeks. My daughter has my chin, cheeks forehead and eye shape. Good observations! happy.gif
